"FROM BASEMENT BREWS TO BOSS CITY VIEWS"

The evolution of Boss City Brewing Co. can be traced back to the late 1990’s. The owner, Stan Norgard, was a college student at San Diego State University and dabbled in homebrewing by sourcing ingredients from Ballast Point Brewing Co. when they had a small homebrew shop in the Point Loma area. Although it was just a small hobby with only a handful of batches that came out just ok, the brewing seed was planted.
Fast forward to 2012 when Stan, and his wife Melissa, moved from San Diego to Sidney, NE to work at Cabela’s and be close to Melissa’s family. Stan was working in the Video Department at Cabela’s in 2017 when the creative sector of Cabela’s was laid off. Stan came home and said to Melissa, “I just got laid off. I’m going to start home brewing again. Sidney needs a brewery one day”. Stan had turned a portion of the garage into a home brewery an began practicing and robbing power from the clothes dryer that forced Melissa to halt laundry during the boil.
The thought of a brewery was just a thought and never an actual goal. Until, Stan and Melissa had bought Sam & Louie’s Pizzeria in Sidney, NE in 2019. “We need to separate ourselves from the rest of the restaurants and bars in Sidney”, said Stan. So, he and Melissa got licensed and Stan brought his homebrew kit into the basement of Sam & Louie’s and thus, Boss City Brewing Co. had been born. The name, Boss City Brewing Co., comes directly from Sidney’s past.
“The City of Sidney was founded in 1867 by the Union Pacific and named for Sidney Dillon, a railroad attorney. The city grew up around the Sidney Barracks, a military outpost with a primary function of protecting the Union Pacific Railroad track layers against the threat of hostile Indians.
Over 80 saloons along with gaming halls, brothels and the world’s first all-night theater dotted the Sidney landscape when it was known as the Boss City - the gateway to the Black Hills gold rush between 1875-1881.”
The story of Boss City Brewing Co. resonates deeply with craft beer enthusiasts and its community-driven customers. Stan and Melissa believe that every pint tells a story, reflecting the culture, community, and creativity of the city they represent. Boss City strives to be a gathering place for both beer lovers and those who appreciate the cultural fabric of their home city. Their story reflects a friendly, approachable demeanor—inviting guests to come and share in their journey. They cherish the stories that come from the community and aim to build lasting relationships with their customers, one pint at a time.
In sum, Stan says, “Boss City Brewing Co. is not just about brewing beer but about creating a legacy of community building, creativity, and passionate craftsmanship”. Each batch brewed is a celebration of Sidney, the people who inhabit it, and the love for “Great Beer and Awesome Friends” that brings them all together.
